From a single room, rented house to a sprawling  own farm . From watching show dogs on television, or hoping the street dog find a good home, this is how the Yashbans story began .

It’s the story of a young girl’s dream come true. A dream to own the finest dogs in the country, a dream to have state of the art , world class kennels and   a dream to be able to give your pets the best . This was the dream of my mother Yashodhara and today , her dream has become a reality.

Animals were always her passion from the very beginning,     dogs her first love. This is what made Yashodhara discover what she really wanted .  It was a chance, it was a risk , it was what no women inIndia even dreamed of and this chance, this risk is what made Yashbans come into existence and what keeps Yashbans striving for more.

Yashbans Kennels is one of India’s leading kennels , breeding world class Pedigreed dogs for over 28 years now. Who could have ever thought that dogs were such a lucrative business. We have bred some of the finest dogs this country has ever seen , setting standards for people to follow , bringing in new breeds and giving families a “best friend”, a companion , a playmate or a guard dog.  

Owning a good dog from years ago always came with a price tag . But it took a lot of courage to see what a hard earned 3000 rupess can make. That’s what our first pet costed. When she bred this first dog  Misha, Yashbans  Argus was born. Though he was sold as a puppy , he brought fame to his owners and pride and fame to my mom. This what made yashodara have faith in her dream, belief in her self and the ambition to achieve something different.  

The dog business has always been a a very expensive ,. A takes courage for a woman to even step into this game. Whether its importing some top quality dogs or Travelling for dog shows it all cost. Travelling the length and the breadth of the country and sometimes even abroad to show off our fine dogs, is what makes this an exciting game. Getting to see now places and meeting some of the finest animal lovers with similar interests  makes it fun. 

Dog shows are a corporate affair and  are most often sponsored by the corporate giants , but this Yashbans, a kennel did something no other kennel has done before, we sponsored a show!

And there is this one incident that I d like to mention, The dog game is a male dominated world. And anyone on the outside would only agree to the belif that women should really not be running around with dogs…   but then  When in the show ring no one cares if you’re a woman . I take pride in saying that my mother was the first and only woman in the Dog game in India to run in the show ring with a German Shepard and against all odds won with a best in show.

Now if the question is how we make money with this expensive hobby, let me put it this way, when we travel for show , and there is no dog as good us ours, and we remain unbeaten in the show ring, my puppies sell.. and sometimes for very fancy prices J

The simple love for the street dog is what sparked the idea of boarding kennels for Yashodhara. Feeling sorry for the abanadoned dog on the road, or a starving lost puppy made Yashodhara realize that this “housing facilty she has for abandoned animals “ can actually be made into a money making opportunity thanks to the hundreds of pet owners who just dint know what to do with their pet when they go on vacation.

When people want a safe travel from their pet, they would pay anything to professionals who love the field.

This is what Yashodhara has today. The brain child behind this fairy tale of Yashbans . And all this did not come easy. It did not come free. It did not come overnight.

At every step of our growth and even now as we grow, we have people discouraging us, people asking us the same question we were asked 28 years ago, we products and services for pets pay off..  … its all a chance we take, unless someone does it how can someone tell.

We stated with a single dog, and an investment of a hard earned 3000 rupees,  today we are worth a lot. We had no support from outside and no financial assistance at all. No financial house was willing to lend us a helping hand for a concept that was vague , indefinite and unheard of. What we are today is all because of our hard work, we grow as we earn and we earn as we grow. We have put our hearts, minds and souls into what we are today. And what we are today is just because of “dogs” .

My mother is my inspiration .  When I finshed school , college, she gave me the freedom of choice. I wanted to be a computer whiz.. but then one day I woke up and realied that that’s not wat I wanted to do … I wanted to be a part of my dogs, my pets. I wanted to explore the possibilities of the Pet service industry.  I ended up leaving to the US to study in my pet related fields .

We have proudly  represented India in shows in Germany, Sri Lanka to name a few.

We have our proud puppies storming the show rings in other countries, bringing fame to “Born in India” tag

I was the first Indian to ever handle a dog in a Spatiality show in USA.

India was represented for the first time at an international pet transporters  conference last year.

And rather than looking for “familiar faces “ on page 3 of the news papers, we have been on page 1 and page 2.

Our quest to discover unknown services for pets and pet lovers is still on/ We still feel the sense for achieving more  .

And now I take pride in saying that “my mom , my sister and I , have all gone to the dogs” And when someone asks me what I do for a living, I just tell them that I care for and play with my pets !  I have no work hours and though it’s a 24/7 job, I love doing every bit of it. The happiness we get from he lick of that pet makes you feel no prouder.
